Earlier this year, World Central Kitchen awarded a series of empowerment grants to our food truck and chef partners, enabling them to purchase new equipment and rebuild kitchens that had been damaged by the hurricane.

Some areas of the island still lack power and the means to prepare food, and electricity may not return for several months. By investing in our partners, we are enabling them to serve meals more effectively and begin reopening their businesses which are vital to the local economy.

One of these partners is Eva Bolivar, who has served over 62,000 meals alone from her restaurant Bili in Vieques with #ChefsForPuertoRico. With the support of World Central Kitchen, Eva will be reopening her restaurant today. “I have changed my opening hours to only dinners so I can continue to work helping the community during the day,” Eva said. “With the support of WCK, I have become an advocate for this island and I will do everything in my power to make things better. I will not allow anyone to go hungry!”

In the coming months, World Central Kitchen will be investing in additional projects that will give assistance where it is needed most, all through the eyes of a chef. Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for the latest updates on #ChefsForPuertoRico.
