Smart School Kitchen, Lusaka

Oz Project (Orphans of Zambia) - Lusaka, Zambia

World Central Kitchen partnered with the Meant 2 Live Foundation and the Coptic Mission in Lusaka, Zambia to help feed 200 orphan school children in their brand new school.

Erica Zambia side image for webWorld Central Kitchen believes that education is a strong way to advance the developing world, and a meal is one of the biggest incentives for a child to go to school. At the OZ School, World Central Kitchen designed the school kitchen and equipped it with clean cookstoves, stainless steel prep tables, refrigeration and a three compartment sink. The school cooks were trained in food safety and sanitation by WCK’s Chef Network. This training dramatically reduces the risk of food-borne illness.

We took the kitchen to another level of “smart” by building a bakery that helps sustain and grow the school. This bakery employs the local community and provides a sustainable revenue stream for the growing school. The Coptic Mission is a perfect match for WCK’s mission as together we aim to feed, educate, and change the lives of the next generation of Zambia.
