Our two current Smart School Kitchens, located in Palmiste Tampe, Haiti, and Lusaka, Zambia, focus on providing a sustainable source of revenue for the school.

Through this project, World Central Kitchen has built new kitchens, community dining areas, vegetable gardens, chicken coops, and a bakery. The daily meal at these schools provide the students with an incentive to attend school while the sales of eggs, vegetables or bread provide a sustainable stream of revenue for the school.

Impact:

  • Over 250 school children receive a daily meal through these school kitchens
  • Revenue is generated for the school through bread or egg and vegetable sales.
  • Attendance rates increased by 135% in the first 6 months in Haiti
  • Baking over 100 loaves per day in Zambia
